From Time-Life Books, and created by Welcome Books and Fair Street, here are two illustrated books about the American experience. A team of very talented people was behind them—the writers and artists whose work appears, of course; Deborah Bull and Susan Wechsler of the book packagers Fair Street; Lena Tabori and Natasha Tabori Fried of Welcome Books; and most of all Greg Wakabayashi, Welcome’s designer. There have been other visual books on these subjects, but in my opinion none of them with the style and impact Greg produced.

World War II: A Tribute in Art and Literature

“If you desire to read a single volume that captures the human dimension of history's greatest conflict, this is your book.... David Colbert presents war at its most emotional, up close and personal. I know of no other book that pairs vivid and moving literary accounts with superb artistic renderings of the war. If a picture is worth a thousand words, this deeply evocative marriage of words and pictures may well be worth a thousand books.”
—James Bradley, author of Flags of Our Fathers
